Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons dried hibiscus petals
- 4 cups water
- Sweetener of choice (optional): honey, sugar, or stevia
- Optional additions for extra flavor:
- Cinnamon stick
- Ginger slices
- Fresh mint leaves
- Lemon or orange slices (for a citrusy twist)
Instructions
- Boil Water
- Heat 4 cups of water in a pot until it reaches a rolling boil.
- Add Hibiscus Petals
- Turn off the heat and add 2 tablespoons of dried hibiscus petals to the hot water.
- Steep the Tea
- Let the hibiscus petals steep for 5-10 minutes, depending on how strong you like the flavor. The longer it steeps, the more vibrant and tangy the tea becomes.
- Strain the Tea
- Pour the tea through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher or teacup to remove the petals.
- Sweeten to Taste
- If desired, add your preferred sweetener (honey, sugar, or stevia) and stir until dissolved.
- Serve
- For hot tea: Serve immediately and enjoy the warmth.
- For iced tea: Allow the tea to cool, then pour it over a glass filled with ice. Garnish with a lemon slice or fresh mint for a refreshing touch.
Notes
- Adjust Sweetness: Start with a small amount of sweetener and adjust to your taste. Hibiscus tea is naturally tart, so sweetening is optional but enhances the flavor.
- Experiment with Additions: Try adding cinnamon, ginger, or mint during steeping for unique flavor profiles. Citrus slices, such as lemon or orange, can also add a refreshing twist.
- Watch Steeping Time: Steeping for too long can make the tea overly bitter. Aim for 5-10 minutes for the best balance of flavor.
- Serve It Your Way:
- For a warm, comforting drink, serve hot.
- For a summer treat, let the tea cool and serve over ice.
- Store Leftovers: Refrigerate any leftover tea in an airtight container for up to 3 days. It’s perfect for iced tea later!
- Use Quality Ingredients: Fresh, organic dried hibiscus petals ensure the best flavor and health benefits.
