Ingredients
Scale
- 1–2 teaspoons of dried butterfly pea flowers
- 1 cup of hot water
- Optional: Sweetener (honey, sugar, etc.)
- Optional: A slice of lemon or lime for added flavor
Instructions
- Boil the Water: Heat 1 cup of water to just below boiling (around 200°F or 93°C).
- Add Butterfly Pea Flowers: Place 1-2 teaspoons of dried butterfly pea flowers into a teapot or cup.
- Steep the Tea: Pour the hot water over the flowers. Let it steep for 5-7 minutes, depending on your desired strength.
- Strain and Serve: After steeping, strain out the flowers and pour the tea into your cup.
- Optional Additions: Sweeten with honey or sugar, and add a slice of lemon or lime for a refreshing twist.
- Serve Hot or Iced: Enjoy your butterfly pea tea hot, or pour it over ice for a cool, refreshing drink.
Notes
- Steeping Time: The longer you steep the butterfly pea flowers, the stronger the color and flavor will be. If you prefer a lighter flavor, steep for around 3-5 minutes.
- Color Change: The tea’s blue color can change if you add acidic ingredients like lemon or lime. A splash of lemon juice turns it into a beautiful purple hue.
- Storage: Store dried butterfly pea flowers in an airtight container in a cool, dry place to maintain freshness.
- Sweeteners: Adjust the sweetness to your preference. Honey, agave, or simple syrup work well with butterfly pea tea.
- Iced Tea: For iced tea, brew the tea, allow it to cool, and pour over ice. Add fresh herbs or fruits like mint or berries for extra flavor.
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
